    • Obtained summary judgment for defendant hospital in emergency room medical malpractice action for failure to diagnose heart attack.

  • Represented clients and jury trials in strict liability cases over a variety of industries and matters including faulty automobile construction; tire blowouts, brake failure; bicycle injury; gun injury; bicycle helmets and a variety of other areas.
  • Represented contractors, developers and builders in construction litigation connected with faulty construction of commercial and residential properties.
  • Numerous jury trials in areas of eminent domain including nuclear power plant site; state and local highways and roadways, electric transmission lines, gas lines, airports, residential, commercial and inverse condemnation.
    • Represented Georgia Power and Oglethorpe Power in local acquisition and enforcement of rights-of way for transmission lines.
    • Successfully represented landowner in Georgia D.O.T. condemnation of land for site of new, multi-million dollar welcome center at I-20/South Carolina corridor.
    • Successfully represented landowner in Burke County concerning major interchange implemented and expanded by Georgia D.O.T.
  • Experience in real estate disputes and trials including matters related to landlines and boundaries; quiet title actions; ownership disputes; and “land locked” property.

  • Represented national bank in matters including name dispute; alleged federal regulation violations; wrongful foreclosure and miscellaneous disputes with competing banks.
  • Limited experience in representing public companies involving securities regulation; 10b-5 fraud; and public disclosures.
  • Represented clients in matters involving Intellectual Property with various cases concerning trademarks, trade names, Lanham Act and related infringements.
  • Prevailed in litigation involving local client’s trademark rights against national company attempting to use marks for its unassociated golf tournament.
  • Trademark infringement trials involving national entities and national banks and other major institutions.
  • Represented local government, businesses and individuals in the areas of zoning and land use; State Certificate of Need for new hospital construction and equipment; roadway abandonment; property exchanges; ad valorem taxation and exemptions for local and national concerns; and general disputes with local government agencies.
  • Successfully represented corporate non-profit group in tax exemption of public land with local county government.
  • Handled numerous Class Actions lawsuits in the areas of mortgage banking, insurance, financial institutions, hospitals, and commercial banking.
  • Represented private individual in a case involving an automobile collision with horse on highway resulting in paraplegia; insurance denial claims of all types.
  • Represented the Physicians Practice Group for State medical school in all litigated matters of malpractice and business dispute.
  • Represented large, national (with international reach) entity as general counsel for 40 years in all areas of corporate law, litigation, intellectual property disputes and trials.
    • Successfully settled dispute and obtained return of stolen merchandise sold through an online auction house.
  • General counsel for major local hospital entity in general corporate law; state and national regulatory matters; state certificate of need contests; litigation; hospital law; physician credentialing and all other matters.
  • Represented major, national asbestos manufacturer in multiple cases during early years of asbestos litigation.

Background Information

Pat has been a trial lawyer since 1966 and practices in the areas of general civil litigation, health care and general business matters. By providing experienced counsel for several decades Pat has helped clients from numerous industries find solutions to conflicts and avoid future conflicts. He has handled a wide variety of cases including: professional, products and premises liability; personal injury; securities fraud; banking, commercial and general business matters; trademarks; construction issues; non-competition agreements; governmental liability; eminent domain; a diversity of general contractual, tort and estate disputes and national and statewide class actions. He also has represented clients in appellate courts, state and federal trial courts and serves as a mediator in commercial, personal injury and professional liability cases. In addition to his litigation practice, he also represents several businesses and healthcare organizations.
